exam question

an old exam question from my biochem class:

While of the following statements is FALSE? DNA chips:
a) can be used for detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms and for measuring the levels of mRNAs.
b) refer to DNA adhered to a surface that is available for base pairing with a complementary probe.
c) can have hundreds of thousands of unique sequences on a single chip slightly greater than 1 square centimeter.
d) have been used to show that different cancer cells have distinct patterns of gene expression.
e) are now the currency of preference at Las Vegas casinos.

i hate when they write such ridiculously obvious questions. i'd rather that they write a really easy question that is not so obvious so i can at least feel good about myself when i get it right.

o yeah, the answer is "e".

10/19/08 lunch

first earring hanger

omg i found this, which, i think is the only picture of my first earring hanger!

10/18/08 dinner

second bento.

hello kitty doesn't quite look like hello kitty, but i'll try to improve next time. i think the problem is all the face stuff is too high up. she actually should have a much larger forehead. and also the whiskers are too in the middle of her head. i should get props for the shape of her head though! not perfect, but hand formed! other people have hello kitty head molds for their rice. one problem was that the carrots for her bow did not stick well, so i'll have to think of a solution for either sticking them better, or use something other than carrots.

i also fried up a little stack of <3-shaped eggs to prepare for future lunches. i am getting really good at making these eggs!!

my first bento: 10/18/08 lunch

and hopefully more to come!

<3-shaped egg

today i was eating lunch and this boy in my class had a really cute lunch, which reminded me, i need to make cute lunches. this is also part of enjoying the small pleasures of life! i spent the afternoon looking up cute bento creations online, but realized i'd have to set my goals a little lower due to time and equipment and budget constraints. then i remembered...

when i was in the netherlands, i think this was in rotterdam, i bought a cute little heart-shaped frying pan! to make heart-shaped eggs and pancakes! so tonight i broke it out!

the first attempt looked so cute in the pan...

but when i tried to flip the egg, it didn't really look heart-shaped anymore. for the second attempt i whipped the egg before hand, and only used 2/3 of the egg...

but i think the heart-shapedness of this egg is still questionable. finally, for the third attempt, i just used the last 1/3 of the previously whipped egg...

i think it is definitely a <3-shaped egg!

being a doctor might be a miserable existence...

i'm starting to realize that being a doctor might be a miserable existence... BUT, i've also learned to enjoy life's small pleasures! here's a summary:

1. after anatomy finished at the beginning of october, i took out my cute sheets and blankets again!

2. then i was shopping at walmart (which i love to do b/c i feel like everyone hates walmart (b/c they are stupid and pretentious) and i just feel bad for it) and came across some awesome supplies and realized i needed to bring back the earring hanger! i had made one in my dorm room at mit, but the one i built last week (pictured below) is, without a doubt, AMAZING.

3. last week i started using my qoo lunch box and this week i started using my small hello kitty tote that is just about the size of a lunch for my...lunch!

4. tonight i rediscovered some cute pins i have!

5. and tonight i finally took pictures of the highlights of my CUTE room! photo-tour of my room begins here.

6. finally, since my last post, i've gone to some pretty good music! a couple weeks ago i went to see thee oh sees at the turf club. they were pretty good, but i REALLY liked one of the opening bands, skoal kodiak (who are local!). turns out turf club is a pretty great venue; they have a smaller stage downstairs and had a band (they were pretty good but i have no idea who they were) going while the upstairs was setting up between bands, which is pretty awesome for someone like me who was again alone and awkard at the show. i also think i like gay beast (also local), but have not seen them yet. AND! on tuesday i went to DEERHOOF! which confirms my theory that only asians can do cute. anyway, it was an amazing show.
